To say it was a big winter here is an understatement.  Our home range snowpack was over 130% of normal this year, and late June finds us gazing up at snow banks still visible up on the peaks of the Cabinet Mountains and swollen rivers and streams roiling down below. The result of all that water and wood pushing around is a whole new riverscape on the smaller streams- new runs and gravel bars where there never were before, but also strainers and logjams that require an alert eye and a steady hand on the oars. Hazards aside, we like big water years, and so do the fish.  The Kootenai is at 13,000 cubic feet per second out of the Libby Dam as of the 21st of June, and she’s sexy at that flow.
